UPDATE: Chatham standoff ends peacefully

A Chatham man in distress and wanted by police has been arrested following a lengthy standoff in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they received multiple 911 calls regarding a man behaving in a way that raised concerns about his well-being and the safety of others.

Police said the 48-year-old man, who was also wanted on an outstanding warrant connected to a separate criminal matter, barricaded himself inside a home on Pine Street in Chatham Monday night when officers arrived.

"After lengthy negotiations, the Emergency Response Team made entry, and the individual was taken into custody safely and without incident," police said.

The accused was charged with mischief on top of the other charges he faces.

Chatham-Kent police is thanking the public for its patience and cooperation during this incident.
