The former president of the Chatham Legion is condemning the Trump administration for mocking Canada's military.
The condemnation comes after two members of Trump's inner circle mocked Canada and its military this week as tensions between the long time allies escalated over their trade dispute.
Len Maynard, a 30-year veteran, told CK News Today the insults are uncalled for, unprofessional, and not the way anybody treats an ally.
"They didn't to mind too much when it came to Afghanistan, Korea, World War II, and World War I when we were there beside them. A little point of history that they seem to forget," said Maynard.
Maynard said the unjustified tariffs and senseless threats must stop before they get out of control.
"I've got to question American values at this point. I don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, or in between. If there's an injustice, you stop it, that's your job, that's what you were voted in to do. I don't understand how he's gotten this far with this stuff," Maynard questioned.
Maynard confessed that his biggest concern is that the escalation and bullying tactics from the U.S. will end up making the First and Second World Wars "look like a picnic."
The U.S. has the world's most powerful military, with Russia and China right behind them. Canada ranks 28th, according to Global Firepower, an annual online database that tracks and ranks the conventional military strength of 145 countries.
