The first Project Bookmark Canada (PBC) plaque in Southwestern Ontario has been unveiled in Thamesville.
On Tuesday, the Chatham-Kent Public Library (CKPL) hosted an event to celebrate the plaque that honours local author Robertson Davies.
Davies, born in Thamesville, is acknowledged as one of Canada's best essayists and novelists, with the plaque quoting his book "Fifth Business", which was set in Thamesville.
"To have such a well-known local author from Thamesville, where we have a library branch and to have this unveiling at our Thamesville branch is just very exciting for us," said Heidi Wyma, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Librarian of CKPS. "We are just so happy and tickled to be part of this unveiling and that they've chosen us as the first plaque."

It has been months in the making, with Executive Member of PBC Carolyn Beacroft reaching out with the idea. Beacroft explained it was a really easy sell, with municipal officials and local vendors stepping up to fundraise for the plaque.
"You could just walk down the street and just talk to anybody, and they were all enthusiastic about it," Beacroft continued.
The plaque is displayed just outside the Thamesville CKPL branch and is one of two plaques being posted in Chatham-Kent (CK). The second plaque will be at the Chatham branch and will honour author Lori Lansen.
