Intimate Partner Violence Assault

A Chatham man faces a long list of charges after a reported assault in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police allege the 27-year-old man broke into the victim's home early on Sunday morning, damaged property, uttered threats, and struck the 23-year female victim from Chatham in the face, causing a minor injury. He is also alleged to have assaulted the victim’s dog, but the dog wasn't hurt, according to police.

Police said the accused was in breach of his court-ordered release conditions.

The accused surrendered himself to police, police said, and he was charged with the following:

  • Assault

  • Uttering threats

  • Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal

  • Two counts of breaching his release order

  • Break and enter

  • Two counts of mischief

Careless Driving Charge

A woman from Dover Township has been charged with careless driving and had her licence suspended for seven days after she allegedly hit a telephone pole.

Chatham-Kent police allege the 40-year-old female driver struck the telephone pole on Grande River Line in Dover early on Sunday morning.

Police said she was not injured.
