73's Face Hawks Next

Having dispatched the Amherstburg Admirals in the Great Lakes Jr. C finals, the Essex 73's are sharpening their skates to take on the Exeter Hawks in Game 1 of the Schmalz Cup.

The two teams have similar records. While the 73's are 12-2 in the post-season, the Hawks are 12-1. Head Coach Gil Langlois says aside from their record, the Hawks are largely an unknown. "As soon as you get outside of your league playoffs you never know what that team's like," he says. "You don't know the competition they've been playing. They could be better. They could be weaker. You just never know."

Game 1 starts at 7:30pm Tuesday at Essex Memorial Arena.

The 73's have won the Great Lakes Jr. C Hockey Championship 19 times since the 1973-74 season, and the Clarence Schmalz Cup six times.
