Organizers were able to complete just one race, as well as a ceremony at the beginning of the night. By 8pm, rain was still falling, and officials made the call to cancel further programming.
Racing is back on next Saturday May 16 beginning at 7pm.
The South Buxton Raceway will offer half-price admission, as well as racing in all five classes.
SPS Board Chair Kelly Ash said the decision followed discussions with Acting Chief Mike Federico and aligns with practices at other police services.
The annual Canada Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, from Wildwood Park to Kenwick Park.
