Chatham Rookie Excelling On Jamieson Tour

A young Chatham girl is excelling in her rookie season on the Jamieson Jr. Golf Tour.

15-year-old Brooke MacKinnon recently won the two-day Widdifield Cup. During the seventh and eighth legs of the competition, shot rounds of 77 and 85 respectively, to seal the victory. MacKinnon says she's proud of what she calls a come from behind win.

"It was cool to start off poorly thinking I was already out of the tournament. But then I finished 1 under through 16 holes, which is the best I've ever done." The strong showing puts MacKinnon at 91.5 points, one and a half points away from being the overall leader in the Jamieson Tour girls division, entering the final stretch of the season.

The young golfer also has aspirations of turning her talents into a scholarship. MacKinnon says she's set on earning a full ride to a school in the U.S., hopefully somewhere warm, so she can polish her skills year round.
