Lions Fall To Redskins

Their defense looked good for the most part, but the Lions' offence sputtered a bit as Detroit dropped its pre-season game against Washington 21-17 Thursday night.

Head Coach Jim Caldwell thinks the team's lack of discipline hurt them the most.

"We just had a number of situations where we got penalized too much -- we had nine penalties I think where as opposed to last week where we had three," says Caldwell.

Back-up quarterback Dan Orlovsky was one of the bright lights for the team in the loss, completing 13-of-17 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lions' first-string defense racked up 3 sacks early in the game and forced Redskins starting quarterback Robert Griffin III to leave the field with a concussion.
