Junior Hockey Wrap-Up: November 24, 2015

The Sarnia Legionnaires kept it close, but couldn't stave off the first place Leamington Flyers in a 2-1 contest Friday.

After trading goals in the first period, Flyers forward Mitchell Amante earned the game winning goal early in the second period, with no scoring in the third frame.

Meanwhile in Junior C hockey action, the Lakeshore Canadiens shut out the Alvinston Flyers 4-0.

Brendan Shuk earned the shutout victory for Lakeshore, making 35 saves. Goals came from Brandon Ireland, Hunter Corp, Mejoe Gasparovic and Guy Levesque.

Another Junior C matchup saw Essex and Dresden capitalize on plenty of special teams chaces, but in the 73's beat the Jr. Kings 7-4. Dresden went 3 for 5 on the powerplay, while Essex went 4 for 6. Brendan Vorshuk earned a hat trick for Essex, while Tyler Scott and Matthew Herbert had three points a piece.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
