NBA Basketball Kids Clinic In Chatham

Dozens of young basketball players will be lacing up their shoes at the YMCA in Chatham tonight for a Junior NBA Basketball Clinic.

Half of the kids are from the YMCA while the other half are from the Chatham-Kent Wildcats basketball club.

Amy Wadworth with the Chatham-Kent YMCA says playing basketball is a great way to stay healthy and doesn't require a big investment.

"We have open gym times when members and non-members will come in and shoot hoops or play a pick-up game," says Wadworth. "It's a great sport because it requires minimal equipment -- all you need is a ball and a pair of running shoes."

It's the first time the local YMCA is hosting this type of an event and it's no coincidence that it's happening now.

"This year the NBA All-Star game is in Toronto and it's the first time that has been held outside of the U.S.," says Wadworth.

An NBA clinician will be teaching basketball skills while an NBA mascot will also make an appearance at the event, which runs from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
