Spits Trade For Speed And Toughness

The Windsor Spitfires' first trade of this off-season is in the books.

General Manager Warren Rychel is sending a fourth round draft pick in 2017 to North Bay, in exchange for 19-year-old Left Winger Mike Baird.

Baird was drafted 30th overall in 2013, and has amassed 10 goals, 15 assists and 196 penalty minutes over 132 regular season games in three seasons with the Battalion.

At 6' 3'' and 185 lbs., Rychel feels the Cayuga-native is a great fit for the Memorial Cup-bound Spitfires.

"We felt like we needed to get older on the wing, while boosting our team speed and toughness," explains the GM. "I've seen it year after year in the OHL playoffs and Memorial Cup -- you need big wingers to make a run. I like what Mike brings to our line-up with his physical edge."
