Sports Briefs - September 15, 2016

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped their fourth-straight series after an 8-1 loss at home to Tampa Bay. Reigning A-L M-V-P Josh Donaldson sat out his third straight game for Toronto.

The Orioles have closed the gap in the A-L East to within a game after Baltimore beat the Red Sox 1-0.

In other baseball action -- the Detroit Tigers are just one game back of the Blue Jays for the second A-L wild card spot. Miguel Cabrera hit the go-ahead home run in the seventh as the Tigers downed Minnesota 9-6.

Ryan Getzlaf beat Sergei Bobrovsky on a breakaway in overtime to give Team Canada to a 3-2 victory over Team Russia in a World Cup of Hockey exhibition. John Tavares and Patrice Bergeron also scored for Canada. Carey Price had 24 saves for the Canadians.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
