Sharks Host Blades in Home Opener

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks take on the Blenheim Blades in their home opener tonight.

The Sharks made a number of changes in the offseason.

"We're trying to change the culture and the atmosphere of the hockey club going forward here," says second year head coach Dave Wiper. "We've still got a bitter taste in our mouth from last year, getting swept in the first round. I just didn't think our compete level was there, and we've made changes in that regard."

Wiper says they're not the biggest group in the world, but they're fast.

"We had a tough time last year putting 60 minutes together," says Wiper. "We would put 50, 40, and then we'd always have a 10 or 8 minute lapse, and it seemed to put us behind the 8-ball. This year we're tying to curb that."

Puck drop is set for 7pm at Wheatley Area Arena.
