Sports Briefs - October 5, 2016

The Toronto Blue Jays are heading to Texas for the next round of the MLB playoffs.

Edwin Encarnacion crushed a three-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 5-2 victor over the Baltimore Orioles in the American League wild card game. Now the team is off to Texas, where the Jays will face the Rangers in a best-of-five ALDS starting tomorrow afternoon at 4:30pm ET.

In other baseball news -- Tigers manager Brad Ausmus will be returning to Detroit next season. Sources say the Tigers have exercised the 2017 option on his contract.

In NHL exhibition action -- Bobby Ryan scored 21 seconds into overtime to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Saskatoon.

Meanwhile -- Chicago cruised past the Detroit Red Wings 6-1.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
