Spitfires Saying Farewell To The Joe

The Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit will pay tribute to the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit this December, by playing a regular season game there.

Spits General Manager Warren Rychel says, "The chance to play at the Joe, one of the great shines of the hockey world, is another opportunity to share a once-in-a-lifetime experience with our fans and the families of our players."

The game, happening on December 4, is being dubbed the "Farewell To The Joe" game.  It's the last season the arena is functioning as the home of the Detroit Red Wings.

The date was originally slated as an away game for the Spitfires, as it falls during the team's 13-game road trip.

This will be the second time Windsor and Saginaw meet in a special regular season game, as the two played an outdoor game at Comerica Park in 2013.
