Sports Briefs - November 9, 2016

Jeff Carter scored a pair of goals as the LA Kings blanked the Maple Leafs 7-0 in Toronto. The loss puts an end to the Leafs' three-game winning streak.

The Detroit Red Wings needed a shootout, but they managed to snap their five game losing skid. Detroit got by the Flyers in Philadephia 3-2.

Elsewhere -- the Vancouver Canucks beat the Rangers 5-3 in New York to end their nine game losing streak -- Carey Price turned back 41 shots in the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 win over Boston -- Nashville got by the Ottawa Senators 3-1 -- Pittsburgh beat the visiting Edmonton Oilers 4-3 -- and rookie Patrik Laine scored his second hat trick of the season for Winnipeg as the Jets pounded Dallas 8-2.

In Junior C hockey action -- the Dresden Kings two game winning streak was snapped with a 5-3 loss to the 73's. Essex jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back.

In MLB news -- Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler is a gold glove winner. The 11-year major league veteran finally won after being a finalist three times before.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
