Sports Briefs - November 30, 2016

Auston Matthews is heating up for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He scored his 10th goal of the season last night as the Leafs beat the Oilers 4-2. Matthews has four goals in his last three games.

Meanwhile -- Anthony Mantha scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period as the Detroit Red Wings beat Dallas 3-1. Wings goalie Petr Mrazek made 34 saves in the win.

Chatham-Kent native Travis Konecny had an assist, and missed in the shootout, but the Phildelphia Flyers still beat the Bruins 3-2 -- the Winnipeg Jets defeated New Jersey 3-2 -- Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist in his season debut as the Buffalo Sabres edged the Ottawa Senators 5-4 -- Bo Horvat scored as the Vancouver Canucks topped Minnesota 5-4 -- and the Montreal Canadiens lost 2-1 to Anaheim.

In the NBA -- Tobias Harris scored 24 points, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Marcus Morris each had 18 points as the Detroit Pistons beat Charlotte 112-89 for their third straight win.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
