Spitfires Get Commitment From McDonald

The Windsor Spitfires have received a commitment from a recent draft pick.

The club announced Thursday that forward Kyle McDonald had signed a standard OHL player and education contract.

McDonald, 16, was the team's second-round draft pick in this year's OHL Priority Selection, 25th overall.

The Ottawa native has just come off a big season with his hometown Junior Senators Midget AAA Club, scoring 25 goals for 46 points in 40 games. He also spent 50 minutes in the penalty box.

Spits general manager Warren Rychel says McDonald has the speed and scoring prowess they've been seeking.

"He's a two-way player and has an excellent shot," Rychel said in a news release. "We're looking forward to him contributing to our lineup in the near future. He's an exciting player and is going to score some goals."

McDonald is expected to report for training camp later this summer.
