Local Teams Open PJHL Season

The Wallaceburg Lakers are hoping to turn things around this season in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

New head coach Ken Shine admits they're in the middle of a three-year rebuilding plan.

"We're looking to compete every day. We've done a big turnover, I think I've got seven kids back from last year, and a whole lot of new players."

Shine said the Lakers made some great additions in the offseason.

"I think that we've added some good leadership. The guys that have stayed that are vets, are leaders. So I'm hoping that they can teach the young guys the proper way of playing the game, and the proper way of conducting themselves."

The Lakers open the season Wednesday night at home against the Blenheim Blades. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Dresden Kings and Wheatley Sharks also face off Wednesday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Wheatley.
