Kings nip Admirals 2-1 in overtime

Nolan Vandenboorn scored twice as the Dresden Kings beat the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals 2-1 in overtime Sunday night at the Libro Centre.

The first-place Kings extend their point total to 17 in the PJHL Stobbs Division. The Admirals get a point for the overtime loss and are tied for third place with nine points.

Max Clifford opened the scoring with the only goal of the first frame, at 4:25, putting the Addys up 1-0.

There was no scoring in the second period, but Dresden outshot Amherstburg 9-8 in those 20 minutes. However, the Admirals' Kyle Meloche and the Kings' Brady Hogg engaged in fisticuffs and earned game misconducts for their efforts. The score remained 1-0 in favour of the Admirals until 59 seconds were left in regulation, when Vandenboorn tied it up for Dresden, forcing the overtime period.

Vandenboorn's overtime winner was scored at 2:48 of the extra frame.

Brett Brochu stopped all but one of the 25 shots he faced between the pipes for Dresden. Jared Ratko had 26 saves in goal for Amherstburg,

The Addys return after the Thanksgiving break and travel to Wallaceburg Wednesday night. The Kings head to Petrolia Thursday night.
