Local swimmer places sixth at Pan Am Games

A competitive swimmer from Wallaceburg is representing the area in Lima, Peru at the Pan American Games.

Madison Broad is one of 16 athletes listed on Canada's swim team. The 18-year-old swimmer placed sixth in the 200-metre backstroke Wednesday night.

"It's an incredible accomplishment and the first time a local swimmer has made the Pan Am [Canadian] team," said Alain Sasseville with the Chatham Pool Sharks.

Broad will compete again this later week in the 100-metre backstroke.

As of Thursday afternoon, Canada's swim team has racked up eight gold medals, 15 silver medals, and 26 bronze medals.
