Genevieve Sasseville, a competitive swimmer from Chatham, has won silver in the 100-metre butterfly event at the Canadian Swimming Championships.
The 16-year-old was in Winnipeg, Manitoba for the championships, which ran from August 8 until August 11.
Sasseville finished Sunday's race with a final time 1:00:41. Hannah Genich, with the Toronto Swim Club, won gold with a final time of 59.90, while Sarah Watson, with the University of Manitoba Bisons, came in third place with a final time of 1:00:48.
"This meet is one of the highlights of a swim season where Canada’s fastest and best come together in this open age category," said Alain Sasseville with the Chatham Pool Sharks. "The qualifying time standards are tough to make and even tougher to make the A final or podium."
Sasseville has little time to rest before getting ready for another major competition. The Chatham swimmer will soon fly out to Budapest, Hungary to compete at the 2019 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships.
