Canadian Christa Deguchi captures historic gold for Canada at Olympics

Canada has its first gold medal of the Paris Olympics.

World number one judoka competitor, Christa Deguchi, took home gold in the under-57 kilo judo competition.

Deguchi took down South Korea's Mimi Huh in the final. Deguchi lost to Huh in the final of the Judo World Championships earlier this year. Huh lost in sudden death overtime when she accumulated a third penalty for a false attack.

This is not only Canada's first gold for the Paris Olympics, it's also the first gold ever in judo competition for Canada. Deguchi is a two-time world judo champion.
