A Chatham-Kent (CK) football team is one win away from being crowned provincial champions.
The U10 Cougars are set to play in the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) 'A' Division championship this Sunday at York University.
Facing them will be the Durham Dolphins, a team the Cougars beat and lost to earlier this season.
Stephen Nguyen, the head coach of the CK Cougars, told CK News Today the team's confidence has grown throughout the season.
"The team has been progressing each week. Our fundamentals have been improving, and the kids are understanding their assignments, and everyone is doing their job," he explained.
This is the Cougars' second year in the OSFL. Win or lose on Sunday, the team has shown amazing growth in a short time.
"We lost every single game last year. This year, we're second place in the standings, first in offense and second in defense," added Nguyen.
Helping lead the top-ranked offense is quarterback Keegan Nguyen. People thinking that most offensive plays in the league are rushing attempts would be wrong. In the semi-finals, Keegan threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns.
He'll look to replicate those stats on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3 p.m.
