Londoners Losing Door To Door Mail Delivery

Canada Post is planning to phase out door to door mail delivery for 42,000 Londoners come the new year.

Canada Post will be switching to community mail boxes for those who have postal codes starting with N5X, N5Y, N5V, N5W, N6G and N6H.

Jon Hamilton with Canada Post tells BlackburnNews.com the phasing out of door to door delivery will save the organization between $400-million and $500-million per year.

He says letter mail has decreased between 25%-30% per household over the last six years.

However, there will not be any job losses. 15,000 Canada Post worker are set to retire over the next five years. Roughly 8,000 of those positions will not be filled, leaving the company still in a hiring position.
