Local Unemployment Higher

Local unemployment grew last month to 7.8% compared to 7.5% in October.

The November rate was released Friday morning by Statistics Canada which also reports the national jobless rate rose 1/10 of a basis point. It's now 6.6%, up from 6.5% in October which was a six-year low.

Stats-can says the country lost 10,700 jobs last month.

U.S. unemployment stayed steady at a six-year low of 5.8% in November, adding 321,000 jobs, in the latest sign that the U.S. is outperforming other major economies.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
