London Escapes Significant Snowfall

London is dodging a snowfall bullet that's aimed at much of the rest of the province today.

The London area got some flurries blown around by northwest winds gusting to 50 km/h. Environment Canada advises that Oxford County could receive up to 5 cm of snowfall today.  But that's nothing compared to what's coming down on points east of us.

Toronto, Niagara, Hamilton and Waterloo are all expecting 10-15 cm of snow today, with gusty winds and poor visibility. School buses are cancelled in some Toronto areas and they're reporting flight delays and cancellations at Pearson International Airport. You're advised to call ahead if you expect to take a flight there today.

Snowfall warnings are in effect for Owen Sound, and northern Grey County as well as Barrie, Orillia and Parry Sound.

Meanwhile, in California, public schools in Oakland and San Francisco won't open today because of a powerful Pacific storm.

Hurricane-force winds are possible and as much as 200 mm of rain could fall on coastal mountains by night time.
