Police in Woodstock are issuing a warning after several coyote sightings in residential areas.
It is believed there are coyote dens in the area of Ferguson Dr. on the south side of the city.
Residents are being asked to not approach the wild animals because they may feel trapped or cornered. If you encounter a coyote you should make noises and make yourself seem bigger than the animal then slowly back away. You should not try to run away as it's likely the animal will chase you.
It is also advised that dogs be kept on a short leash and that cats remain indoors, since they can be mistaken for prey.
City officials, the police and the Ministry of Natural Resources are working together to find a solution to the growing population of coyotes within residential areas in Woodstock.
