Two Die From Flu

The flu has claimed the lives of two Londoners over the past week and a half.

This brings the total flu related deaths to three this season.

Between December 28, 2014 and January 3, 2015 there have been 38 laboratory confirmned cases of influenza A reported to the health unit.

Officials say these numbers mean the flu activity in the community is "high."

Since September 1, 2015 there have been 59 laboratory confirmed cases. Of those 59, 21 of the patients have been hospitalized.

There have been a total of eight outbreaks over the last week at long-term care homes and health care facilities.

The first flu death of the season happened in late November.

Health officials at the LHSC says most of the flu cases they have seen are a new strain of H3N2, which the flu shot does not entirely protect you from.
