Crashes Close 401

It's been a day of lane closures on Hwy. 401 in the London area.

On Friday morning, OPP had to close the eastbound lanes of the highway at Elgin Rd. after a crash involving a transport truck. The lanes re-opened around 11am.

Then, just after 11am, a transport truck collided with a salt truck in the westbound lanes at Black's Rd. near Rodney, forcing the closure of the lanes.

Police say the transport truck driver, a 32-year-old man from Arthur,  was trying to pass the salter truck when he had to brake suddenly. The driver lost control of the truck and hit the back of the salter.

Neither driver was hurt, but the tractor trailer leaked diesel fuel onto the highway.

The lanes re-opened around 3pm. The transport truck driver is charged with careless driving.
