Teens Facing Child Pornography Charges

Three Norfolk County teens are facing child pornography related charges after circulating sexually explicit images of a peer online.

OPP say officers received a complaint and began investigating an incident of child pornography on January 12. A day later, police arrested and charged an 18-year-old male, a 17-year-old female and a 16-year-old female with distribution of child pornography.

Police are asking all parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of "self-peer exploitation" in the wake of these charges being laid.

Investigators say there has been an increase in cases of young teens using the internet to send sexually explicit images or videos to others.

OPP are concerned about the safety and wellbeing of those who find themselves overwhelmed after deciding to share these types of photos. Officers note there are criminal consequences for those who decide to share explicit images of anyone under the age of 18.

All of those charged are to appear in a Simcoe court at a later date.
