Friends Raise Money for Crash Victim's Funeral

A friend of the man who died in a crash near Western on the weekend has started a Go Fund Me campaign to raise money for his funeral.

Chris Bjelis began the fundraiser with a goal of raising $10,000 for a funeral or a celebration of life for Jan (Johnny or Jay) Broz. The 23-year-old died on the scene when a car he was riding in with two friends hit a tree early Sunday morning on Perth Dr. south of Windermere Rd.. The driver is still in critical condition and another passenger is listed in fair condition in hospital.

On Broz' Facebook page, where he's identified as Jay Broz, he is a self-described car nut, even posting a photo of a hoodie with the words, "Life's too short to stay stock" on the back. He emigrated to Canada from Plzen, Czech Republic.

The Go Fund Me page can be accessed HERE.

Investigators say alcohol may have played a factor in the crash but they haven't elaborated. You can read the latest on the investigation HERE.
