Public Service Employees Rally In London

Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will rally outside the Child Parent Resource Institute this morning as the union and province try to work out a new contract.

The collective agreement between the province and over 100,000 ministry workers expired on December 31, 2014.

The two sides have been at the bargaining table for over a month.

A news release from the union says the province is refusing to negotiate and is set on freezing wages and cutting benefits.

“Government negotiators at the bargaining table appear they would rather push the OPS into a strike than negotiate a fair deal with their employees,” says OPSEU President Warren Smokey Thomas. “Yet this same government seems to have no problems with wasting billions of dollars on failed privatization schemes.”

Earlier this month, correctional officers rallied in front of London's embattled Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre to get their message across.

Today's rally starts at 6:45am at CPRI on Sanatorium Rd.
