Cold Weather Alert Issued

The London-Middlesex Health Unit is issuing a Cold Weather Alert as temperatures as expected to drop drastically overnight.

Environment Canada predicts the temperature will drop to -17C overnight , with wind chill values near -25C.

The alert comes into effect tonight and will remain in place until tomorrow, when the daytime high is forecasted at -4C.

Health unit officials are asking you to stay indoors and limit the time you spend outside. It only takes a few moments for exposed skin to become damaged by frostbite.

If you must venture outside, you are asked to bundle up and wear appropriate clothing for the weather.

The first signs of frostbite are skin turing red, blue or gray, numbness and stiffness. If you suspect frostbite warm the area by placing it in warm water.

Hypothermia is also possible due to overexposure to cold temperatures.
