Impaired Snowmobile Driver Flees From Police

A 21-year-old man is facing several charges following a joy ride through Exeter on a snowmobile.

Police say just after 2am this morning a Huron OPP officer saw a man and woman exit a bar on Main St. S in Exeter. The pair got onto a Yamaha snowmobile and sped away.

Police say the driver sped past two other officers when one of them activated the emergency lights and tried to stop the snowmobile. The driver failed to stop and sped away. Officers did not chase the driver, since he was driving dangerously and putting others at risk.

A few minutes later, police saw the snowmobile upside down on the front lawn of a home on Huron St. W. The driver and passenger had fled the scene, and were found hiding behind a nearby garage.

Police say the driver had been drinking alcohol and both of his breath samples registered over the legal limit.

The 21-year-old from South Huron now faces one charge of impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
