Fire At Storybook Gardens

London firefighters battled a blaze in one of the barns at Storybook Gardens on Springbank Dr.

The fire broke out around 9am Tuesday. City officials tell BlackburnNews.com a worker was checking on the animals inside the barn and smelled smoke.

"Unfortunately, we have lost the barn but the animals are outside and they are safe. We've made alternate arrangements for them at a local barn and they will be transported shortly," says London's Manager of Aquatics, Arenas and Attractions Lynn Loubert. "The barn was built in 1958, it has been on site since Storybook has. We're saddened by the loss but we're just glad all the animals got out safely."

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The animals, including donkeys, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens and a rooster are being cared for at a local farm. Storybook Gardens will stay closed to the public until at least Thursday.
