Cold Weather Alert Issued

As temperatures plummet, the both the Elgin-St. Thomas Health Unit and Middlesex-London Health Unit are issuing cold weather alerts.

Today's low is set to reach -15 C and continue to fall to -21 C overnight, with wind chill temperatures making it feel more like -27 C.

The low temperatures are expected to linger in the region until Tuesday of next week.

The cold weather alert is in effect this afternoon until Tuesday, February 17.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold weather alert. Weather experts say a strong cold front is crossing all of southern Ontario. Wind chill values are expected to be between -20 C and -35 C.

Anyone planning on heading outside is asked to bundle up.

Overexposure to the cold can result in hypothermia and frostbite.
