402 Open Again After Blustery Valentine's Day

The westbound lanes of Hwy. 402 from Nauvoo Rd. to Hwy. 401 finally reopened just after noon Sunday according to the Ministry of Transportation.

Eastbound lanes had reopened earlier Sunday morning.

The highway was one of many across the district closed due to whiteout conditions in snow and blowing snow.

A snow squall warning for Sarnia-Lambton ended at noon Sunday but an extreme cold warning remained in effect.

Lambton OPP Constable Todd Monaghan says Hwy. 402 remained closed Sunday morning due to drifting and blowing snow and to allow the removal of vehicles from ditches.

There had been no reports of any serious injuries in weather-related crashes.

Numerous highways were closed including parts of Hwy. 401. A multi-vehicle pileup occurred early Saturday afternoon near Woodstock. Hwy. 21, at one point, was closed all the way from Forest to Southampton.

Many of the roads had or were reopening Sunday.
