Cold Weather Alerts Extended

Both Elgin-St. Thomas Health Unit and Middlesex-London Health Unit are extending Cold Weather Alerts issued last week.

The alerts were initially issued on Thursday and set to expire today. However, Environment Canada is predicting lows this week will be colder than -15C, with wind chills reaching -20C.

The one for Elgin-St. Thomas will remain in effect until Friday, while the Middlesex-London Health Unit's alert has been extended until Monday, February 23.

Health officials are asking anyone who is planning on spending time outside to dress accordingly.

Overexposure to extreme cold temperatures can result in hypothermia and frostbite.
