More Londoners Needing Utility Assistance

With this winter shaping up to be one of the coldest on record, London's Housing Stability Bank is seeing an increased demand for emergency utility assistance.

The Housing Stability Bank is a community service provided by the Centre of Hope. The program provides financial assistance to eligible Londoners with low income, who are at risk of having their gas, water or electricity disconnected.

The Manager of the Housing Stability Bank Charlotte Dingwall says an increased number of people are seeking help as the bills start to come in.

"Our phone is definitely ringing and there's a demand for this service," she says. "We have a really good relationship with the utility companies, so (they) are really good about referring people."

Dingwall says the program helps to ensure low income residents remain sustainable during the harsh winter months.
