UPDATE: Man Struck By Transport Truck

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being struck by a transport truck on Hwy. 3 in Courtland.

The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the collision, which occurred on Friday around 2:35pm, on the highway between Byerlay Side Rd. and Talbot St.

The SIU says when police attended the crash, one officer located a pickup truck in a woodlot about 50 ft off the highway, and spoke with the 23-year-old male driver. The officer then returned to his cruiser.

Shortly after, the man from the pickup truck exited his vehicle, made his way to the road and was struck by a tractor trailer. He has since been taken to London Health Sciences Centre for treatment of serious injuries.

Hwy. 3 is expected to closed in the area for the rest of the evening while police investigate.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the SIU at 416-622-2038 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2038. The SIU investigates incidents involving the police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
