Abandoned Baby Found In Old South

A baby boy has been turned over to Children's Aid Society after being found abandoned in an Emery St. driveway early Tuesday morning.

Around 5:40am, Anthony Franze walked out of his home on Emery St. to leave for work, when he heard a sound that he never thought could be a baby.

"I thought, maybe it was a cat in distress," Franze tells BlackburnNews.com. "I kept hearing the noise and I looked around and saw a car seat at the end of the neighbour's driveway. Going through my head, I was like, there's no way that's a baby. I ran over and sure enough it was a baby."

Franze says the infant was wearing pyjamas and a blanket and was strapped into a car seat that was covered in frost.

"His hands were exposed and his face was exposed to the weather. He was frozen to the touch."

He says he immediately took the child into his house and wrapped him a blanket while his fiance called 911. Paramedics took the child to hospital, where police say he was "medically cleared."

Franze says he was told the child's mother had recently been taken into police custody. Police would not confirm when or for what reason, but say they have identified and are interviewing both parents.

The baby boy is in the custody of the Children's Aid Society. The investigation is continuing.
