Two Die In Woodstock Fire

A Woodstock man and woman are dead after fire ripped through their home early this morning.

Firefighters were called to McQueen St. around 6:22am. A man on the lower level managed to escape the burning building and call 911.

Another man was rescued from the second floor of the building and taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.

Heavy smoke and flames prevented firefighters from going back in for the woman trapped inside.

"We had to douse the hotspots and put the fire out. The Ontario Fire Marshal is on scene and we've located that individual that has deceased," Woodstock Fire Department Public Information Officer Lisa Woods tells BlackburnNews.com. "The gentleman that was on the main level that exited the building said he heard working smoke alarms."

The identity of the two people who died has yet to be released. The house had two apartments inside.

Damage is pegged at $300,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
