Final Push For Spring Food Drive

Officials at the London Food Bank hope that, by the end of the day, they will have collected over 70,000 lbs of food despite a slow start to the 28th annual Spring Food Drive.
Food collected at this time of the year will keep shelves stocked through the summer months, when donations tend to drop off.
On average, the food bank helps about 3,500 Londoners per month. But, Co-director Glen Pearson tells BlackburnNews.com there has been a decline in those using the service over the last two months.
"There has been a 40% increase over the last five years. However, in January and February things have begun to level off. We're not fully sure what that's due to, some think it's due to the weather while others think it's a long term trend," says Pearson. "However, summer gets to be a lean time. We stage these food drives at three or four different key times a year. This food from this drive will also help the 21 other social agencies we help, so 50% of the food collected in this drive will go to those other agencies."
You can donate at the Leathorne St. site or at different grocery stores across the city.
