Postmedia Takes Over London Free Press

Postmedia officially takes over the London Free Press today.

There have yet to be any layoffs or changes locally. It is unclear if Postmedia will hang on to the London Free Press building located on York St.

In a piece published today titled "Dear Reader" the company says there will be "some changes." It goes on to say that selected local names and writers from Sun Media will remain, while Londoners will also see more national content.

Before the takeover, Postmedia was already one of Canada's largest chains of daily newspapers.

The Sun Media takeover will add 175 newspapers and publications to Postmedia and is worth $316-million.

Other newspapers in the region changing hands include the Chatham Daily News and the Sarnia Observer.
