Rock The Park And Other Council Decisions

City council agreed that the annual Rock the Park festival in Harris Park should not have to go dark on Friday, July 17, to comply with a bylaw that prohibits live events from going longer than four consecutive days.

With council's approval, organizers of the fundraising concert series for Bethany's Hope Foundation can now book performers for the Friday night, making RTP 2015 a five-night event, July 14-18.

Beginning late next year, the drop-rate for taxi fares will be tied to the rate of inflation. The drop-rate is the initial fare on the meter as the customer's ride begins.

Also, in light of a successful legal challenge to a shark fin ban in Toronto, London councillors decided to drop a similar bylaw here. The Toronto challenge revealed that such a ban at the municipal level has no teeth. City politicians don't have the jurisdiction over the issue.
