London Police Officer Charged With Assault

A London police officer is now facing one charge of assault causing bodily harm after a man suffered two fractured ribs while in custody.

The Special Investigations Unit alleges Sergeant Trevor Pool committed a criminal offence in August of 2014.

Michel Gibeault, 43, was arrested on August 10 of 2014 for various offences. When he was taken to the police station, investigators say there was an "interaction" between Gibeault and Sergeant Pool. When Gibeault was released from police custody he had two fractured ribs.

The incident was not reported to the SIU until four months later, in December of that year.

Pool will appear before a judge on June 9 to answer to the assault charge.

He has been placed on "administrative duty" pending the outcome of the court case.
