Top Canadian Carvers At London Camp

A who's who of Canadian chainsaw carvers will fire up their machines at Camp Woodeden in the city's west end this weekend.

Organized by London carver Mike Winia, the event features four days of live carving, open to the public. Winia will be joined by 11 other top Canadian carvers, including three of the stars of HGTV's Carver Kings; Ryan Cook and Paul and Jacob Frenette. They're donating their time and, ultimately, their sculptures to the Easter Seals camp that children with disabilities visit every summer.

Winia says although chainsaw carvers are unusual, they're like any other artists in the way they approach their craft.

Winia and fellow carver Joerg Jung will be representing Canada at the world carving championships in Germany in May.

Live carving happens April 30-May 3; Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8am-4pm and on Sunday from 9am-1pm. Some of their previously-made art will also be for sale.

Camp Woodeden is located at 2311 Oxford St. W.
