Elderly London Man Charged In Crash

A London man has been charged after a two-vehicle collision in Central Elgin sent seven people to hospital.

The Ontario Provincial Police says on Sunday around 11:10am, a silver 2009 Pontiac VA4 traveling west on Talbot Line crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2015 Dodge Caravan.

The driver of the Dodge, a 35-year-old man from St. Thomas, and his five passengers were all taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. They have since been released.

The driver of the Pontiac, an 82-year-old man from London, had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Central Elgin Fire Department. He was then taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say all passengers and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Talbot Line was shut down between Quaker Rd. and Yarmouth Centre Rd. from 11:10am until 12:30pm while police were at the scene.

The 82-year-old London man has been charged with failing to drive in a marked lane.
