SIU Investigating ATV Traffic Stop

The province's police watchdog is investigating after an ATV rider was seriously injured while being pulled over by police in Norfolk County.

The Ontario Provincial Police says on Saturday around 7:56pm, an officer saw the ATV traveling north on East Quarter Line Rd.  The officer then activated his lights and pulled the vehicle over.

Police say when the officer exited his cruiser, the driver of the ATV reversed into the intersection of East Quarter Line Rd. and Windham Centre Rd., causing the ATV to rollover. The ATV rider suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

The OPP says it contacted the Special Investigation Unit, which has since invoked its mandate. The incident remains under investigation.
